Year-round - Bolivia
Our hospital in Bolivia is currently the primary site where we send volunteers, both medical and non-medical. Over its 10-year history, Hospitals of Hope has sent over 1700 volunteers to Bolivia, who assist the Bolivian staff in caring for patients, as well as doing construction and community outreach.
Volunteers in Bolivia stay in our guesthouse, located just behind our hospital. We can accommodate groups or individuals, and we take volunteers year-round. Trip cost will depend on the length of your stay.
Learn more about this opportunity by exploring the other pages in the Trip Resources section or by checking out our Bolivia pages. To apply to go to Bolivia with us, fill out our International Volunteer Application.
Summer 2011- First Responder Training in Bolivia
During the summer of 2011, we will again complete First Responder training for the Bolivian National Police. In the Department of Cochabamba there were over 3003 accidents, resulting in 100 fatalities, during 2008. Bolivian National Police are the first public servants to arrive at accident scenes. Because of this, it is crucial that the police be properly trained to deal with the situations they encounter.
This First Responder training has the potential to save the lives of hundreds of accident victims who would otherwise not receive appropriate care until it was too late.

Year-round - Liberia
Hospitals of Hope has developed a partnership with ELWA Hospital in Liberia, where volunteers are welcome to serve year-round. ELWA welcomes volunteers at all levels of their training, including undergraduates. Volunteers in Liberia stay at the ELWA guesthouse.

Spring, 2011 - Haiti
Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, with over half of its people living in abject poverty. Hospitals of Hope began work in Haiti in 2004, with our "Clinic in a Can"-- a mobile medical/dental clinic.
In Spring 2011, we will again be sending a short-term volunteer team to Haiti to perform medical work. There will be work for volunteers who do not have a medical background.

In February, I abandoned my comfortable existence as a fourth year medical student in North Carolina, and traveled to Bolivia, South America for a short term mission trip.
We were saddened to learn that Dr. Richard Kowalske, who used to work at our clinic in Bolivia, has died from malaria after returning from Uganda. He was a great man of God, and he will be sorely missed.
