Mission Trip Description Short and Long term
What is a non-scheduled mission trip?
A non-scheduled trip is a trip focused towards individuals who would like to spend more than a ten-day mission trip in the country of destination. It is also designed so that individuals that would like to go on a mission trip can choose to go when it is most convenient for them.
There is much flexibility when you decide to “make” your own mission trip and schedule. For example, you decide the length of stay and when you would like to go. We give you the costs and you decide what you can afford. Then you leave the planning and purchasing up to us.
The other big advantage about a non-scheduled mission trip is that you will not be “bumping elbows” with many other eager mission team members. We cannot always guarantee that the clinic will be busy or what type of cases will be attended. If you go on a team trip during one of these slow days or weeks, then you might not feel as useful for each patient is a “prized” individual.
The other benefit is that you will be afforded more flexibility in traveling and meeting people from that country. The unfortunate thing with large groups is that it is very difficult to coordinate activities to distant destination that are very beautiful and unique only to Bolivia. You will be given the opportunity to visit other cities and geographical regions if your budget affords you this pleasure.
What are the advantages to a Non-Scheduled Mission trip?
- More opportunities for one on one patient contact.
- The overall cost of the mission trip is cheaper.
- Flexibility in scheduling your own travel dates.
- More opportunities to develop friendships with natives.
- More opportunities to experience the rich culture and see other parts of the country.
- More time to spend in the hot showers in the morning!
- Don’t have to fight to get into the bathroom during those needy moments.
What is a scheduled mission trip?
A scheduled mission trip is geared around work teams or medical mission teams. Many churches, mission agencies, colleges and institutions put together teams each year that desire to travel abroad to do humanitarian mission work. These groups of individuals want to block out a specific week in their schedule months in advance for vacation scheduling purposes.
Hospitals of Hope’s staff chooses numerous “blocks” of ten days during the summer months especially for teams. These trips are geared so that each team member will only be absent from work or on vacation for six “working” days.
Typically what HOH staff members will do with mission teams arrange for medical mission teams to do outreaches to communities without medical or dental attention. These teams will work for five days providing care pertaining to their training.
Construction or work teams are always in high demand for us. The project of building the pediatric hospital is going to take years and many man-hours. From digging foundations (by hand) to pouring concrete, most of this work does not need special training.
